Name: Zelos Wilder

Gender: Male
Canon: Tales of Symphonia
Canon Point: In Welgaia, after Lloyd saves him just before their final battle with Mithos
History: Wikia
Personality:
On the surface, Zelos comes across confident, care free, and perverted. He has been shown to hold no reserves when commenting on the beauty of every nearby female. Such as the women of the party. He's even generous enough to bless each one with a nickname pertaining to their person. He has been described as a pervert, philanderer, and so on. During a scene at the hot springs, Zelos had attempted to peek at the girls. Additionally, Sheena mentioned that he once tried looking at her while she was in the shower. On occasion he will watch women with spectacles. Outside of the party, he was typically seen with and around women whom he showered with attention. Much like his debut, Zelos doesn't engage with many men save for political reasons involving the Pope and the King.

When other members of the party hold a somber atmosphere, Zelos is the one to treats things as if they've never happened. For instance, when Corrine died protecting Sheena, he says later on: “What are you talking about? There’s no point in worrying about stuff that’s already over.” Outwardly he continues on unaffected, and he says to himself: "If everyone around her is walking on eggshells like that she’s just going to get more depressed."
He's also the first to make a joke while holding a serious conversation with another. Not many things seem to keep him down even when the situation can turn grim. Sheena mentioned it being weird seeing him depressed. Lloyd had also made a comment mentioning that it was very unlike Zelos to be brooding.

When referring to himself, he generally tacks on 'the great' ('the wise', 'the beautiful', and 'the divine') every so often. Zelos carries himself in a confident way, if not, arrogantly. In relation to his care free attitude, nothing seems to threaten or intimidate him. During a conversation with Raine and Lloyd, Zelos joked about deceiving Lloyd. To which Raine responded Zelos' life would be forfeit. Zelos simply replied it was joke.

Being a Chosen, Zelos comes from a powerful lineage (of arranged marriages controlled by oracle from Cruxis) to insure the bloodline is appropriate for World Regeneration. According to Zelos, his power is second to that of the royal family. Because he's essentially a noble of Tethe'alla, he holds a lot of influence to those around him, including the King. Knowing the type of control he wields, Zelos takes advantage of his power to further himself (and his party members.) For example, when his academic success was brought into question, Zelos claimed that his hunnies did most of the work for him. Such as taking notes, answering his questions and so on. He says himself: “If he’s useful, make use of him.”

Zelos lacked conviction, bouncing between alliances to see which would benefit him the most. Cruxis had promised to relinquish him of his title Chosen of Mana, and passing the responsibilies onto Seles (who wanted to be Chosen.) Due to this, he became explicitly aware of his treachery. Throughout most of the game, Zelos plays the party into believing he's on their side, when reality, he wasn't. In multiple points of the game he stated that he sided with the strongest. Not only was he a spy for Cruxis, but he also leaked information to the Renegades while traveling with Lloyd. Subsequently Zelos held them back from their goals of saving Colette and reuniting the worlds. Depending on his support, he can even permanently betray the party if you don't trust him.

Somewhere down the line, Zelos started to become conflicted with the planned betrayal of Lloyd's group. He began to question whether or not he would really able to follow through with it, and continually second guessed himself behind the party's back. After figuring out where the last Zircon shipment went, in order to save Colette from her illness, he spoke to himself: “Won’t “run away anymore.” Dammit. What should I do?" Zelos has never actually confronted his problems. Rather than address the issues, he choses to run away from them. However, one problem continually haunted him, and it was the fact that he was a Chosen. Zelos couldn't ever escape his fate as Chosen. (In Flanoir, when confessing to Lloyd, he spoke: “I never wanted to be the Chosen. I spent every moment of my life wishing I could just run away.”) Zelos had a special phrase he called "magic words" as a means to help him cope over his lack of control, and they were: “Whatever will be, will be.”

Underneath his show of charisma and arrogance are his true colors. Zelos was never actually happy being where he was. Before he was even born, Zelos had his entire life planned out for him because he was a Chosen. This created a struggle of powerlessness over his own life. The people around him never engaged with him out of their own volition, they engaged with him because they had to because he was a Chosen. Outside of the relationship with his sister (who is shaky to begin with,) Zelos had no real connections with other people. He claimed that no one had wanted him. At one point, he makes it vehemently clear that he doesn't want to be a Chosen and he never did. Throughout some of his conversations, Lloyd slowly figured out that Chosen's lead unhappy or tragic lives. Such as the many before them who never succeeded in World regeneration, and lie dormant in coffins within the Tower of Salvation. Zelos mentioned that nothing good comes with being a chosen, and it was the fact that he was a Chosen that lead to his assassination attempt.

Zelos and Seles both misconstrue the other's feelings. Both siblings believe the other doesn't love them, even though the exact opposite is true. Both care very deeply for one another. Their relationship is further complicated due to his fate of being a Chosen. If Zelos were to die, Seles would be the next Chosen. Because of this reason, Zelos views himself as her obstacle of becoming a Chosen. As far as he's concerned, that's what she really wants. Zelos believes that the execution of her mother, and her house arrest was his fault just for being the Chosen. He feels he deserves to be hated by her for essentially ruining her life. Deep down, he truly cares for his sister, and worries for her constantly due to her illness. Ultimately, her sickness is what kept him from allowing her to join them in their journey. It's because she's important to him, that he doesn't want to lose her. Whether she loves him or not, Seles is one of the most important people in his life.

It wasn't until Lloyd came around that things start to change. Lloyd thought of him as a friend, and told Zelos that he trusted him. Coming from a background where no one wanted him, this meant a great deal to Zelos. When the group was seeking medical treatment for Altessa, Zelos' plan of betrayal started to falter further. At the Tower of Salvation, when Zelos plays on betraying them. Lloyd says: “You’re lying! I still trust you, you hear me?! You’re the one that told me I could trust you!” Zelos' faith in Lloyd became cemented. It was then, that Zelos used his position as a Cruxis spy to help save them. He went from having no self worth, to having some. When Lloyd told Zelos he had value just by being his friend (as pathetic as it was). Because Lloyd believed in him, Zelos' long history of running away would change for the better. It was Lloyd's influence that reshaped Zelos into wanting to be a better person.
“Sorry, but I’ve got no choice. The guy who decided my value believes in me and tells me not run away! I trust you, Lloyd! I, the sorta valuable Zelos, am headed your way!”

“Exactly. Especially since we now have our new found pathetic value and all. I’m gonna try to face my challenges head on.”

I, the great Zelos, Hero of Light, is here to help you defeat the Calamity. My darling hunnies needn't worry because I'll protect them. I wouldn't want my cool beauties to be hurt needlessly.

Still not sure about this whole Crystal of Fire thing, but how hard can it be? Anyway, the sooner we get this outta the way, the better. I'm a very busy person you know, and I can't keep my darlings at home waiting. Send me a reply if you have any lead. Those furballs aren't very useful.
